Osteopathy can help patients of all ages (including babies, children, adults, pregnant women, athletes, and seniors) and encompasses the treatment of acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) conditions, as well as illness and injury prevention.

Common conditions treated with osteopathy include back, neck, shoulder, and joint pain; sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome; GIT disturbances (ex. IBS, constipation); menstrual pain and irregularity; stress-induced health problems; various neurological and auto-immune conditions; TMJ jaw pain; and pregnancy and infant care (ex. lumbar pain, postpartum).

At HealthOne, our osteopaths take a unique approach with every patient and use a variety of techniques and treatment methods to address the restrictions and imbalances in the body.

Specialized Services

Injections prepared from the patient’s blood that stimulate and speed up the natural repair process of the body.

Local cortisone injections typically used to treat orthopedic conditions such as arthritis, tendinopathies, and bursitis. The injection can reduce inflammation around the injured tissues.

Injections of a hyaluronic acid solution typically used as a fast and effective treatment for osteoarthritis. The injection can increase the cushioning and lubrication of osteoarthritic synovial, or joint, fluid.

Treatments

Shock Wave Therapy

Shock Wave Therapy is a treatment used on soft tissue that is injured, inflamed, scarred or contains adhesions.

It involves applying high-energy acoustic pulses which are transmitted directly into the tissue of the affected area on the body. A shockwave is a physically generated sound wave that occurs when an object reaches the speed of sound.

There are many ways shockwave therapy can benefit you, including increased circulation, decreased muscle spasms, stimulation of the body’s natural healing response, and the breakdown of scar tissue and adhesions. As a non-invasive procedure, any shockwave therapy side effects such as bruising or swelling after treatment will be minimal.

Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that reduces pain by improving circulation to deep and superficial tissues.
Laser light can be tuned to specific wavelengths which makes it an effective medical procedure for reducing inflammation, alleviating pain and enhancing tissue repair. Cold laser therapy can also be used for tissue repair and pain relief, but does not have a heating effect on the body’s tissue due to using lower levels of light.

At HealthOne, laser therapy can be administered by your rehabilitation provider as effective technique to improve your condition.
Acupuncture needles inserted into patient with back pain

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a treatment rooted in Chinese Medicine that involves inserting very fine, sterile needles into the body.

It’s believed one can realign an unbalanced energy and promote natural healing with acupuncture, and today, Western medicine has recognized its effectiveness in pain relief and injury recovery. Many rehabilitation providers have adopted it as a treatment modality to further help their patients, and we are proud to provide to be providing acupuncture and active-release therapy in Toronto. At HealthOne, our physiotherapists and massage therapists are highly trained in the application of acupuncture.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy is an effective therapeutic treatment option for healing tissues in the body. It has been shown that ultrasound can speed up the healing process for injured tissues while also improving the quality of tissue repair.
For tissues that are compromised or inhibited while healing, therapeutic ultrasound can greatly improve the process. In situations where the tissue is healing ‘normally’, ultrasound will effectively speed up the healing process so the tissue can reach its final state in a shorter amount of time.

Based on your unique needs, your Rehab practitioner can determine if Ultrasound therapy would be a suitable treatment option and the ways in which it could be used.

IFC/TENS Therapy

Interferential Current Therapy uses high frequency signals to accelerate the self-healing process of your muscle tissues. It is an effective way to experience pain relief and get your body back to feeling healthy again.
During IFC, your practitioner will place electrodes on the skin of the area where you have an injury. Next, the Interferential Current device will transmit small amounts of electric impulses through your skin to stimulate the nerves and tissues. This form of therapy helps stimulate endorphins which have a pain-reducing effect, and also helps the body self-heal. In addition, IFC can be used to help reduce pain, inflammation, swelling and spasms.

Active Release Therapy

Active Release Therapy is a form of manual therapy designed to relieve tension found in the soft tissues of the body. If left untreated, repetitive tissue use and overload can lead to weak muscles, numbness, aching, tingling, and burning.
ART is an effective way to remove fibrosis and adhesions found in the soft tissues which often result from strain injuries, cumulative trauma injuries and constant pressure tension lesions. During treatment, you will be instructed to move the body part where the injury site is located in specific ways while your practitioner applies targeted compression and pressure.

Body Composition Analysis

Using our professional body scanning device, our team will evaluate your weight, body composition (body water, protein, bone density, and fat mass), hydration, and blood pressure.
This report can be used to take measures to improve health and achieve your fitness goals. It is commonly used to track progress towards your goals over time.

Many of our clients are interested in understanding their body composition, beyond the typical BMI (body mass index) score. Our team will provide you a professional print-out of your assessment for you to take home and more importantly review results and help you understand the actions to come next.

Functional Movement Assessments

Movement and mobility are fundamental components of living a healthy lifestyle.
This is why it’s important to learn and understand how well we move in all areas of daily life. Functional Movement Assessments (FMAs) are used to determine the quality of our movement. FMAs are a predictive screening system that assesses and identifies your movement capacity so that you can move your best. The FMA quantifies your mobility, stability, and functional abilities so that you can best understand your rehabilitation needs and areas for improvement.

At HealthOne, our expert Kinesiologists take an educational approach when performing FMA’s for our patients. Following your assessment, your Kinesiologist will provide you with a digital scorecard that will highlight where you performed best and the areas you can improve. You will also be provided treatment recommendations to best supplement your physical wellness journey. Annual re-assessments are recommended and are a great way to check in on your progress. They can also allow you to make modifications to your physical routines for continual improvement over your life.

Custom Exercise Programs

Exercise is a fundamental component of your physical recovery.
It is one of the most effective treatment approaches used by rehab providers because it increases your strength, improves your posture and decreases muscle tension. Exercise can also help improve and prevent injuries that often result from weak or unstable muscles and joints.

At HealthOne, our Rehab providers use state-of-the-art exercise software to create customized exercise programs for to your specific goals and recovery needs. We take into account many components of your lifestyle and can create exercise programs for seniors, adults, and young adults. Using digital images, videos and detailed instructions, they are easy to understand and can make an excellent home exercise program.
